Developed a love of drawing at an early age but it wasn’t until his family moved to Quorn in 1960 that he started to take his interest in art seriously and began dabbling in watercolour. At this stage he was strongly influenced by the vibrant colours used by Albert Namitjira. By the early 1970’s he had moved onto acrylics and had decided to specialise in the buildings of outback Australia so his interest in architecture proved to be a valuable asset as he constantly strived to achieve accuracy with his work.
Simon moved to Port Augusta in 1981 as Deputy Principal of the Flinders View Primary School and quickly realised that the local Willochra Plain provided him with a wealth of subject material for his paintings. By 1983 he moved from acrylics to pastel and watercolour and has mainly worked in these media over the past twenty years.
Simon who now lives in Adelaide combines his art career as a part time teacher. Over the past 30n years he has held thirteen solo exhibitions and regularly travels to the Flinders Ranges where he feels very much at home. Many of his friends believe that has red dirt in his veins.
Simon’s work can be viewed at the following galleries:
• Bute Gallery
• Curdnatta Gallery Port Augusta
• A Bit Of Everything Gallery Auburn
• Gallery Restaurant Comfort Inn Port Augusta.
